A large, thematic exhibition that looks at the emanation of the macabre and medieval "Gothic" themes in 19th century north-European art. The fertile artistic imagination of the 19th century drew in many ways on medieval and renaissance concepts to delve into the dark side of the human psyche. Artists whose work is on show include Böcklin, Van Gogh, Kittelsen (pictured), Munch, Simberg and many others.
