More than 150 works are presented by female artists who were active in Britain between 1520-1920. This covers a massive time span, but due attention is paid to the 19th century as an era when female artists started to attain proper recognition in their own right. Artists whose work is covered include Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807), Elizabeth Butler (1846-1933) and Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970).
